3/22/2012"Computer Associates Announces Cloud-based Services; Expands IT Managed Services Practice"

March 22, 2012 — In an effort to meet the growing demand for cloud-based computing and affordable, fully managed information technology (IT) support services, Computer Associates (CAI) today announced a significant expansion of its IT services practice.

The company will showcase its latest IT offerings, including cloud migration, cyber security and remote desktop and server management services, at the Rhode Island Business Expo (RIBX), to be held on May 3 at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

End-to-End Cloud Migration Services

“Businesses understand that the day-to-day costs associated with maintaining and supporting an on-premise server and IT infrastructure can very quickly spiral out of control,” said Jim McCooey, president of CAI. “They also know that computer network downtime or lost data can be catastrophic. Our cloud-migration services leverage the newest datacenter technology to help businesses run their operations efficiently, securely and at a lower cost in the cloud.”

In a cloud-based solution, office-based employees, telecommuting staff and remote sales reps simply access their apps and data on a web browser, while CAI’s technical services team centrally manages the solution in the cloud, including everyday operations, upgrades, monitoring and optimization.

In addition to reducing the upfront investment in servers and related IT equipment, CAI’s cloud-based services offer an excellent data backup and disaster recovery solution. With data safely stored in secure, remote data centers, losing power due to a thunderstorm or a cut power line is no big deal. “In many cases, we can get your mission-critical apps back online and business running again as little as 30 minutes.”

Managed Service Maximizes Computer Network Up-time, Cyber Security

CAI has also made a series of strategic investments in the latest remote server management technology. These cutting-edge tools enable the company to provide automated 24/7 monitoring and maintenance, cyber-security safeguards to keep unauthorized traffic off the network, offsite backups and remote troubleshooting of desktops, laptops, servers and other network endpoints before problems can impact operations and profitability.

Designed for small to medium-size businesses with or without in-house IT resources, CAI’s managed services are available for a fixed, monthly fee and are offered in a range of configurable options that let companies select a program that best meets their individual needs.

“As a local company with a 33-year track record of developing and supporting enterprise-wide, industry-specific business management software for our diverse base of national clients, we know all too well that the performance and availability of software applications is only as good as the network they run on,” McCooey added. “By expanding our managed services offering and utilizing the latest server and desktop remote management tools, we can offer local companies the cost-effective, IT infrastructure support management that will maximize the availability and security of their data at a consistent, understandable cost.”

The company also announced that Tom Troia has been tapped to head up the expanded IT services team which has doubled in size since the start of the year. Tom joins CAI from EBI Systems LLC, where he was technical services manager responsible for delivering networking, hardware and software services for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB). CAI’s service staff average more than 15 years IT experience, boast professional certifications from leading IT vendors like Microsoft, Cisco and VMWare, and has a track record of implementing business IT solutions on-time and on-budget.
