Lord for os/2

LORD for OS/2 (alpha) released

I was given the unique opportunity a few evenings ago to test an alpha release of Legend of the Red Dragon that was using an OS/2-native EXE. To both my and Michael (Preslar, LORD's developer) suprise, it worked nicely. OS/2 sysops will notice a definite improvement in speed as well as no measurable CPU usage unlike the older DOS versions.

However, there are several caveats:

- You /HAVE/ to use DOOR32.SYS to use this door. See below for my solution for
this.
- IGMs have NOT been tested. I don't have any IGMs installed yet, so this is still in
testing (and discovery).
- The door has only been tested on Maximus/2 and Telegard/2. I am assuming
that LORD/2 will work under EleBBS/2, Mystic/2 and Synchronet/2 (with the
proper dropfile created).

I wrote two scripts to create a DOOR32.SYS dropfile for Maximus/2 and Telegard/2. I also put all I know about this as well as the scripts in an INF file that I recently released. If you're interested in that, you can: grab it from my website (http://outpostbbs.net, click on the Cheepware link), email FREQ it (send an email to bbs@outpostbbs.net, subject of FREQ and message body of LORDP32.ZIP) or just email me (sean@outpostbbs.net) and ask me to send it to you.

The file DOES NOT CONTAIN the actual EXE. To get that, you must email Michael (at mike@lordlegacy.com) and ask for the OS/2 binary. This is just a drop-in replacement of the DOS LORD.EXE file, however, read the INF for more information and warnings.

I do sincerely hope that enough OS/2 sysops bother to try this and let Michael know of their interest. I've been bugging him for over six years now for an OS/2 version of LORD and it finally happened. Now I'm hoping there's interest besides me and one other OS/2-based sysop out there for this.
