25 February 2010
CHEEPWARE ACQUIRES SABREEDIT
Shawn Highfield, a Cheepware member, has acquired the rights and the source
code to SabreEdit, a full-featured full screen editor BBS door, last developed
by Darrell Harder of SabreTech. Currently the Cheepware team, consisting of
Sean Dennis and Shawn Highfield, is developing a working version of the
software which has been renamed to CheepEdit. CheepEdit will be a freeware
program but will require a free registration key in order to be fully
functional.
CheepEdit is a full-featured full screen editor that will work with any
BBS software that will support 16-bit DOS doors, the MSGTMP file and the
DOOR.SYS or DORINFO1.DEF dropfiles. CheepEdit has additional support
for Remote Access BBS, QuickBBS and Ezycom BBS software.
Some of CheepEdit's features:
- Text-editor style editing keys
- Full quoting and quote text reformatting
- Taglines + IntelliTag topic-related tagline searching
- Full individual configurations for each user
- Message text spellchecker and 45,000+ word dictionary
- Personal spellchecker dictionaries for each user
- Designed to allow easy translation to other languages
- Highly configurable message censoring features
- Key-phrase text expansions for ease of use
- Color schemes are 100% operator and user configurable
- Per-user-per-group lockouts supported (RA/QBBS/Ezycom only)
- Compatible with most offline readers (Blue Wave, etc.)
- Many message area-sensitive features
Right now we are concentrating on the DOS version to get bug-free and
reliable. Once that happens, we hope to provide a real native Win32
and OS/2 version of CheepEdit. We are hoping to have a working DOS
version within a week with several bugfixes.
For any questions concerning CheepEdit, please contact Shawn Highfield
or Sean Dennis in the official Cheepware support echo, CHWARE, in
Fidonet or MIN_BBS in Micronet.
